Inspire® Therapy

Coastal Carolina Ear, Nose & Throat Now Offers Inspire® Therapy for Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Coastal Carolina Ear, Nose & Throat is proud to now offer Inspire® therapy, an innovative, long-term solution for patients suffering from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) who have tried and struggled with CPAP.

What Is Obstructive Sleep Apnea?

Obstructive sleep apnea is the most common form of sleep apnea and affects an estimated 30 million Americans, though only six million are diagnosed.

OSA occurs when the tongue relaxes and falls backward during sleep, blocking the airway. This blockage can cause repeated pauses in breathing throughout the night, often resulting in gasping, choking, or waking frequently.

If left untreated, OSA may increase the risk of serious health conditions, including:

  • Type 2 diabetes

  • Stroke

  • Heart attack

  • Depression

  • Shortened life expectancy

A Mask-Free Alternative to CPAP

Traditional OSA treatment often involves CPAP therapy, which uses a mask and hose to push air through the airway. However, many patients find CPAP difficult to tolerate.

Inspire therapy works differently.

Inspire is a small device implanted during a minimally invasive surgical procedure. It works comfortably inside your body and synchronizes with your natural breathing pattern. The system delivers gentle pulses that move the tongue forward, helping keep the airway open during sleep.

When your airway stays open:

  • You can breathe regularly

  • Sleep more soundly

  • Wake up feeling more refreshed

No mask. No hose. Just sleep.

Patients use a small handheld Inspire™ remote to turn the therapy on before bed and off upon waking.

Proven Safety and Patient Satisfaction

What Our Team Says

"In our practice, we see many patients who are unable to tolerate CPAP therapy. Inspire represents a significant advancement in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea. It is clinically proven to reduce sleep apnea events, has high patient satisfaction, and strong therapy adherence. We are excited to offer this promising option to our patients."

Important Safety Information

Inspire therapy is not for everyone. It is a surgically implanted system intended to treat obstructive sleep apnea in patients who are not effectively treated by, or are unable to tolerate, CPAP.

Risks associated with the surgical implant procedure may include:

  • Infection

  • Temporary tongue weakness

  • In rare cases, tongue paresis or atrophy

Some patients may require adjustments to the system settings after implantation to optimize effectiveness and comfort.
